From time to time I look back at the course of my illustration journey and often cringe at the work I've produced and wonder whether I should take it down and hide it away. I usually come to the same conclusion though and that's that this is my evolution and without it I wouldn't be making the work I am today. So rather than be embarrassed by my past I thought I'd bring it up to date and what better time to do that than five years on from my very first blog post. I decided to give my new giant some decency and so I've clothed him and made him look...well, less gormless. Here's to the future!

Here are a few of the illustrations I have in the latest edition of French children's magazine, Georges. The illustrations are for a puzzle page about how Dizzie Gillespie's trumpet got bent. There are a couple more images that tell the story and the idea is to put them in the right order.

I have some work in the latest issue of Russian business magazine Sekret Firmy. The article is about people you meet everyday and so the brief was simply to illustrate 40 different characters. I say simply but for someone that only has 2 or 3 characters in his repertoire it was quite tough to think up that many.

Above is my contribution to the exhibition 75 Peters which celebrates British architect, Sir Peter Cook's 75th birthday. The show features portraits of Sir Peter by 75 international artists (check out those names!). The show is being held in Brisbane and runs from the 26th of October to the 9th of November. I am deeply saddened by the news that Peter Falk died yesterday. Anybody that knows me will no doubt be aware of how much I love Columbo and though there are many reasons why I love the show, when I try to think of them all, well I'm finding it hard. I guess it's the seventies cop showness of it, it's the similarities between Dostoevsky's 'Crime & Punishment', it's the great supporting actors playing the murderer - Johnny Cash!, his notebook and other scraps of paper with notes written, it's evidence in brown paper bags and cardboard boxes, never being able to find his pen, Robbie the robot, a bowl of chilli, his dog, his car, his wife, his raincoat, cigars, one more thing...Peter Falk.

I have some work in the 100 Euro Show being held at the Wieden + Kennedy gallery in Amsterdam. 100 artsist are exhibiting and the work will also be for sale with 50% of proceeds going to the American Red Cross. The Forest

It's been a while since I did any printing but I'm really pleased with how these have turned out. It's the first time that I've had any real success overlapping colours to create a third and I also decided this time round that I'd try out some printing clamps. Up to know I've never used them, not for any particular reason, just that over time I developed my own way of keeping the screen in place and thought that that was as good as any. Clearly I was wrong. This really has revolutionised my printing process and I can't wait to get started on a new print.

I'm a bit late in posting this but there is still time to jet off to Miami to see my work on the walls of the Primary Projects exhibition space. Here are the images that I submitted for the exhibition but judging by these photographs I think I slightly missed the point of the brief. I've been thinking of doing this for a while but never got around to it until now. What am I talking about? well for those of you that don't know, I made these illustrations for the re-brand of 8th Continent earlier this year and I'm sad to say that I've yet to see the finished product in the flesh. In a bid to get a set of cartons I've decided to invite people to send me a carton and in return I'll send them a surprise package of goodies from my shop. I'm only looking for the empty cartons so you'll need to drink the milk...or not depending on your tastes, then package it up in a good strong box and put it in the post (I'd like em to arrive in as new a condition as possible please).

OK so, if you'd like to get involved then here's what to do:

Email me with the subject line 'Swap Shop' and tell me which of the four cartons you'd like to send (you only have to send one). Then wait for me to email you back and I'll let you know what to do next.

I'm looking for two sets of the following cartons: Original, Complete Vanilla, Light Original & Fat Free Original. So once I've received an email for each carton I'll post a comment on here stating that the Swap Shop is closed.

For anyone feeling they missed out or if you're just on the look out for stuff to buy (it is that time of year after all) then head over to my shop and gawp at whats on offer there. The more observant of you may notice a bit of a price increase but for those of you in the UK I'm no longer charging for postage so hopefully this will even things out a bit (if you think my prices are simply crazy expensive then please email me as I don't want to rip anyone off and am more than open to suggestion).

The sleeves consist of a hand folded tracing paper outer and a foldover that I designed using an old family slide from Jo. The album is released on Static Caravan and ltd to just 200 copies. For those of you visiting the fair city of Edinburgh, you should most definitley visit the very fine emporium and gallery that is Analogue Books. Not only do they have a show of Christopher Bettig's work on at the moment but they also have some fine work for sale including a few of my screenprints!

Just got my copy of the new Ass album released by Static Caravan, which is printed on reverse board and pressed on white vinyl. This could'nt have come out better and I just wish my pictures did the thing justice as its a beauty.

Sunny Days To Dry For

I've just had word from the very lovely Sally and Dave from To Dry For that the teatowel I designed is ready and that I'll have one in my grasps by tea time tomorrow. If you would like to buy one you can get them direct from the TDF website. I'll have some for sale at some point in my shop and Sally and Dave will be at the Pulse exhibition next month. If you don't want to buy my teatowel then you should still check out the TDF website as there are a whole host of beauties that no kitchen should be without.

To Haiti With Love

As I'm sure you're aware, earlier this year a massive earthquake hit Haiti and as many as 200,000 people lost their lives. Though the worlds attention has moved on over a million people still remain homeless. On the THWL website you will find a whole host of international artists that have donated their work to be used as digital postcards and you can do your bit to raise money for much need housing by sending one of these digital postcards and donating £1.

Now that I'm a big boy and have a website all of my own, I've decide that I need to start spreading the love others have shown me. So in a bid to do just that I'll be posting the odd tidbit of goodness going on in the world. To kick things off...

The ever so talented Chris Bourke has an exhibition happening right now at Studio 4 Gallery in the Custard Factory, Birmingham. You should most definitley go look if you can as your eyes won't be disappointed.

Not My Type Exhibition

An Out of Character Experiment is a typographical exploration of 26 letters by 26 predominantly Birmingham based illustrators, designers and artists, all displayed as one alphabet.
The exhibition will run in the Created In Birmingham store, opening May 6th and running until June 1st. Find out more about the show and the people involved here.

Babushka 3D

I've had a set of blank Matryoshka dolls sat on my desk for a few weeks now and yesterday I finally decided to take the plunge and start painting. As you may or may not know I don't have much patience for such things so I'm quite pleased to have finished at least one of the dolls. I'm also rather pleased with myself by thinking up a way round painting the others. I intend to post the rest of the dolls to my good friend Simon Peplow with instruction to complete one and send the rest to an artist of his choosing along with instruction for them to do the same. Hopefully once all are painted and back together they'll make a rather snappy set. Watch this space.
